Utopia has been first and foremost established as the Tel-Aviv international festival for fantastic film, presenting over the course of 7-10 days a rich kaleidoscope of new, innovative and provocative films – both Israeli and international – from the fantastic genres with a focus and expertise in science fiction. Under the title of “science, imagination and the future” Utopia weaves together a series of conferences, master-classes, lightning-talk sessions, cultural events, art exhibitions and parties that deal with the intersections of technology and society, science and ethics, geek, web and digital culture and future visions. Utopia utilizes science fiction as a platform for discussions on radical sciences and their ethics; on social and philosophical debate; on the forefront of media, cinema and the storytelling art; but firstly – as a laboratory for big visionary ideas. Utopia is part of the DLD Tel Aviv Innovation Festival, the largest digital summit in Israel. The joint enterprise brings a season of innovation to Tel Aviv – technological as well as cultural, and over-runs the streets with technological innovation, digital art and culture, science fiction visions of the future and out-of-this-world cinema. The festival is managed by the Utopia association, a registered non-profit, jointly with the Tel-Aviv Cinematheque, is produced with the collaboration of the Arts and Culture Department of the Tel-Aviv Municipality and is supported by the Israeli Film Council – Ministry of Culture and by the Cultural and Scientific Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Festival founder and director is Uri Aviv. The Festival producer is Premshay Hermon.
